Al-Aqili: A ‘courageous’ start to the Anti-Corruption Committee … satisfying the people by opening ‘heavy’ files

The former head of the Integrity Commission, Judge Rahim Al-Aqili, confirmed, on Sunday, that the Supreme Committee for Combating Corruption has courageously begun to carry out important and effective prosecutions, while noting that the ceiling of the people’s demands in the anti-corruption file is very high.

Al-Aqili said in a statement to the official agency, followed by “People” (October 11, 2020), that “the Anti-Corruption Committee’s use of experts and judges will not be of value unless it produces serious and courageous prosecutions for major corruption files.”

He added, “The ceiling of the demands of the Iraqi people in the fight against corruption is very high, and the committee will not be able to satisfy them except by overthrowing major corrupt persons, opening large files and a completed investigation that heals the grieving chests of the plunder of the country’s wealth and the bankruptcy of the state due to the overt practices that have continued for 17 years.”

“The committee, which started with an early and courageous start, carried out important and effective prosecutions, in which we hope for good in uncovering major corruption files,” Al-Aqili added
